Opening Defects and Creating Stories from Issues

When you review issues from a Quality Clouds scan, you can log the ones you want your team to act on directly into ServiceNow® Agile Development, as either a defect (something to fix) or a story (something to plan and implement).

This keeps governance findings inside the same backlog your team already works from, instead of a separate list to track manually.

This functionality is only available for environments that have Agile Development plugin activated. Read more about the ServiceNow® Agile Development application.

To create defects or stories, your user must belong to the QC Agile Users group. This group is created automatically when the Quality Clouds application is configured on your ServiceNow instance; if you don’t see the Create Defect or Create Story buttons, ask your admin to add you to it.

Make sure you have imported your instances, scans and issues.

Creating stories from issues #

Use this when the fix needs to be planned and estimated as work, rather than logged as a defect.

  1. In ServiceNow, go to the Quality Clouds –> Instance, and select the scan you want to review.

  2. On the Issues tab, Identify and select the issue or issues you want fixed For example, look for all HIGH severity issues affecting the Performance impact area.

  3. Click Create Story or create Bulk Stories from the dropdown menu

A story is created with all the issue information (name, application, CE, issue type, line number, created by/on, and updated by/on dates), and you’ll get a confirmation message with its number. By default, it’s in Draft state.

You can now use the Stories section of your Agile Development to view the stories created and assign them to yourself or colleagues for implementation.
