What is Rule Builder

What is Rule Builder? #

Rule Builder is a powerful capability in Quality Clouds that allows you to create and customize your own quality rules without writing code. It enables organizations to embed their internal governance standards and best practices directly into Quality Clouds scans, ensuring continuous compliance and proactive quaity control.

With Rule Builder, custom rules can be created, tested, refined, and published directly within the platform, giving teams full control over how quality is defined and enforced across their environments.

In addition, the rule builder functionality can be also accessed from the Quality Center for both ServiceNow and Salesforce

How It Works #

Rule Builder guides you through the complete lifecycle of a custom rule, from definition to validation and activation.

  1. Access Rule Builder
From the Quality Clouds portal, open the Ruleset section > click “Add”
  2. Define the Rule
Start by selecting the element types and description of the custom rule you want to generate
  3. Review Rule Metadata
Based on your description, Rule Builder automatically generates the rule metadata, including:
    1. Rule Name
    2. Severity
    3. Impact Area
    4. Rule Impact
    5. Actions
    6. Remediation Time

  4. You can review and approve this information before proceeding.
  5. Automatic Rule Condition Generation
Once approved, Rule Builder generates the underlying rule condition automatically.
  6. Test the Rule
To validate the rule, you are prompted to provide:
    1. Instance ID
    2. Configuration Element Name
    3. A live test run is executed against the instance, and the results are displayed immediately.
  7. Iterate or Modify
After testing, you can choose to:
    1. Continue testing
    2. Modify the rule
    3. Publish the rule

  8. Publish the Rule
Once testing confirms the rule behaves as expected, you can publish it to your Quality Clouds account.
  9. Activate the Rule
Published custom rules are added in a deactivated state by default.
    To activate them:
    1. Go to the Ruleset section in the Quality Clouds admin portal
    2. Search under Best Practices
    3. Enable the new custom rule
  10. Once enabled, the rule will start identifying issues in upcoming scans.
