Livecheck For ServiceNow

Livecheck for ServiceNow lets you validate ServiceNow code and configuration before it reaches production, either in real time as you work or on demand against update sets. It applies Quality Clouds best-practice rules and reports issues without waiting for a scheduled scan.

Designed for: ServiceNow Admins, Developers, Release Managers Purpose:

  • Validate changes before committing or promoting them
  • Detect issues early, in the flow of work
  • Improve release quality and reduce rework

Livecheck is available in three modes, depending on when and what you want to check.

1. Real-Time Livecheck (Per Record) #

Once configured, Livecheck runs directly from the record forms Quality Clouds supports (Business Rules, Script Includes, and other configuration element types). See the full List of Configuration Elements (CEs) Scanned in ServiceNow for all supported types.

Each form includes a Quality Clouds Live Check Issues related list, so you get feedback as you work rather than waiting for a scheduled or manual scan.

This is the fastest feedback loop and is best suited for individual developers validating their own changes as they write them.

2. Scanning Update Sets #

Use this when you want to validate a set of changes together, typically before promotion.

Scanning a single update set

  • Go to Local Update Sets and open the target update set.
  • Click Livecheck to analyze all changes.
  • Review issues under Related Links → Quality Clouds Livecheck Issues.

Scanning multiple update sets

  • Go to Local Update Sets.
  • Select the update sets you want to scan.
  • From Actions, choose Quality Clouds Livecheck List.
  • Open any update set and check Related Links → Quality Clouds Livecheck Issues.

Scanning parent update sets

  • Open the parent update set in Local Update Sets.
  • Click Livecheck to analyze all included child sets, with results reported per update set.
  • View issues via Related Links → Quality Clouds Livecheck Issues in each included update set.

3. Scanning Retrieved Update Sets #

Retrieved update sets are update sets pulled into an instance from another instance (for example, when promoting changes from development into test). The retrieved update set form includes two Quality Clouds actions:

  • Quality Clouds Live Check: runs a full Livecheck scan, same as on a local update set.
  • Check Update Set Integrity: validates that the update set has not been modified since it was closed in the source environment and promoted. This is meant to be used in Test (or later) environments, to confirm you are testing and promoting exactly what was reviewed upstream, not a version that changed in transit.

Scanning a single retrieved update set

  • Open the target update set in Retrieved Update Sets.
  • Click Quality Clouds Livecheck on the form to trigger the scan.
  • A Livecheck record is created and linked to the retrieved update set. Once the scan finishes, review issues in the related lists on the form: QC Livechecks, Active Livecheck Issues, and Baseline Livecheck Issues.

Checking update set integrity

  • Open the retrieved update set.
  • Click Check Update Set Integrity.
  • Use this before promoting further (for example from Test to Production) to confirm the update set still matches what was originally closed in Dev, catching any unexpected changes introduced during the promotion process.

Scanning a batch (parent) retrieved update set

  • Open the parent retrieved update set the same way.
  • Click Quality Clouds Livecheck to scan the parent and all its included child sets.
  • Review issues per included update set through the same related lists.

In Release Tracking View in Quality Center for ServiceNow, the Retrieved Update Sets sub-view gives you the same Quality Gate status and KPIs used for local update sets (Passed, Failed, blocking issues), so you can track quality gates for what actually lands in an instance from an upstream one, which matters most right before promotion to production.

Filter by Update Set Name, Description, Application, Quality Gate, or Batch Base, same as with local update sets.

4. Scanning XML Update Sets (Admin Portal) #

Use this to validate exported XML files before committing them into ServiceNow, for example when reviewing a change coming from another instance.

  • Log in to the Quality Clouds Admin Portal.
  • Go to Scan Update Set.
  • Click Upload and select your XML file.
  • View the scan summary, review issues, or download a ZIP. An email with results is sent automatically.

5. Notes on Older Installations #

Instances still running ServiceNow app version 9.6.x may have Livecheck installed via a manually loaded update set rather than the Global Component Installer used from version 10 onward. If you are on a current version (v13 or v14), you do not need to do anything here: Livecheck is installed as part of Guided Setup. See Connect Your ServiceNow Instance to Quality Clouds for the current installation flow.

If you are still on version 9.6.x and need the legacy installation file, contact Quality Clouds Support rather than installing it yourself, since it predates the current Global Component Installer and Guided Setup flow.
