Delete Account

What “delete account” means #

“Deleting your account” in Norma means deleting the organisation — the top-level container that holds your workspaces, repositories, members, scan history, and MCP connections. It removes:

  • The organisation itself.
  • All workspaces inside it.
  • All repositories imported into those workspaces.
  • All scan history, issues, and Production Ready Scores.
  • All members’ access to the organisation. Their personal Norma identities (Google / GitHub / Bitbucket sign-ins) are not touched.
  • All API keys and MCP connections.
  • All billing records on Norma’s side. The Stripe subscription is cancelled separately — see “Before you delete” below.

This is intentionally a single sweeping action — you can’t partially delete an organisation.

What it doesn’t do #

  • Your code is unaffected. Norma doesn’t store source code; deleting the organisation has zero effect on the repositories on GitHub or Bitbucket.
  • Your personal sign-in survives. You can still log in to Norma with the same Google / GitHub / Bitbucket account; you’ll land on the join-workspace screen because you no longer belong to an organisation.
  • Stripe subscription continues until you cancel it. Deleting the org does not auto-cancel your Stripe subscription. Cancel it first to stop being charged.

Who can delete the organisation #

Only the organisation admin — the person who originally created the organisation — can perform this action. Regular Owners see the section but with the Delete button disabled and a tooltip:

Only the organisation admin can delete the organisation.

If the original admin has left your team, contact support — admin reassignment is currently a manual operation. See Members — Changing who is admin.

Tier requirement #

Self-serve account deletion is a Pro-tier feature. On Free, the Danger Zone section shows the option but the Delete button is disabled with a tooltip linking to upgrade.

If you’re on Free and want your organisation deleted, contact support — we’ll process it for you.

Before you delete #

  1. Cancel your Stripe subscription if you’re on Pro. Open Organisation Settings → Billing → Manage in Stripe → Cancel subscription. Deleting the organisation does not stop billing — Stripe is a separate system. See Plan and billing.
  2. Download any invoices or reports you might need. They’re gone forever once the organisation is deleted.
  3. Tell your team. Every other member loses access immediately when you confirm. There’s no undo.

How to delete the organisation #

Requires the organisation admin role on a Pro tier account.

  1. Open Organisation Settings from the sidebar workspace selector.
  2. Scroll to the bottom — the Danger zone section, bordered in red.
  3. Click Delete organisation.
  4. A confirmation dialog appears. To prevent accidents, you have to type the organisation’s name exactly into the confirmation field. The Delete organisation button stays disabled until the typed name matches.
  5. Type the name and click Delete organisation.
  6. You’re signed out and redirected to the sign-up page.

The operation completes in seconds and is irreversible. There is no recovery period and no undelete button.

After deletion #

  • Re-signing up with the same identity creates a fresh, empty organisation. There’s no connection to the deleted one.
  • Other members of the deleted organisation will see the join-workspace screen on their next visit. Their data is gone; their identity is intact.
  • GitHub / Bitbucket app installs remain authorised on the provider side. Revoke them manually on the provider if you don’t want Norma to have any future access — see Connect GitHub or Connect Bitbucket.

Frequently asked questions #

I deleted by accident — can you restore?
No. The deletion is immediate and complete. We cannot recover scan history, members, or repositories.

Can I delete just a workspace instead of the whole organisation?
Yes — see Workspaces — Deleting a workspace. Workspace deletion is reversible only in the sense that you can re-import the repositories from your provider.

I’m on Free and want my account gone. What now?
Contact support. We’ll process the deletion manually until self-serve account deletion is available across all tiers.

Does deleting the organisation revoke my GitHub / Bitbucket app installation?
No. Those installations live on the provider side. Revoke them yourself from the provider’s settings if needed.

What about GDPR / data subject deletion requests?
Contact support with the request. Self-serve deletion on Pro covers organisation data. For other personal data deletion under GDPR or similar regulations, our support team will handle the request manually.
