Workspaces

Overview #

A workspace is the container that holds your repositories, scan history, and members. Free accounts get one; Pro accounts get three. Most teams use workspaces to separate concerns — for example a personal workspace and a work workspace, or a staging workspace and a production workspace.

Where to manage workspaces #

Open Organisation Settings from the sidebar workspace selector and scroll to the Workspaces section. You’ll see:

  • A Workspaces used progress bar (e.g. 1 of 1, 2 of 3).
  • A Default workspace selector — see “Default workspace” below.
  • A list of every workspace, with its name, repository count, creation date, and the person who created it.
  • A + New workspace button (disabled if you’re at quota).

Workspace quota by tier #

Tier Workspaces
Free 1
Pro 3

See Tiers and quotas for the full set of limits.

Creating a workspace #

  1. Open Organisation Settings → Workspaces.
  2. Click + New workspace.
  3. Give it a name (e.g. Personal, Acme Engineering, Staging).
  4. Click Create.

If you’re at your workspace quota, the button is disabled with a tooltip:

N of N used — upgrade to PRO for 3 workspaces.

Renaming a workspace #

  1. Open Organisation Settings → Workspaces.
  2. Open the kebab menu on the workspace row.
  3. Choose Rename.
  4. Type the new name and confirm.

Renames are immediate. The workspace ID stays the same — bookmarks and API integrations continue to work.

Default workspace #

When you connect a new repository, it goes into a workspace. If you don’t pick one explicitly, Norma assigns it to the default workspace — which is the oldest workspace in your organisation. You can leave that as the default or override it from Organisation Settings → Workspaces → Default workspace.

This change matters when you have multiple workspaces. With one workspace, there’s only one place a repository can land — so the default doesn’t come up.

Moving a repository between workspaces #

You can move a repository from one workspace to another at any time (Pro tier only — Free tier has only one workspace).

  1. Open the repository’s detail page.
  2. Click the kebab menu in the top-right.
  3. Choose Move to workspace.
  4. Pick the destination workspace and confirm.

Repositories belong to exactly one workspace at a time — there’s no shared/cross-workspace mode.

Deleting a workspace #

  1. Open Organisation Settings → Workspaces.
  2. Open the kebab menu on the workspace row.
  3. Choose Delete.

Two safeguards apply:

  • Last workspace can’t be deleted. Your organisation must always have at least one workspace. The Delete option is disabled on the last remaining workspace.
  • Non-empty workspaces can’t be deleted. If the workspace still contains repositories, the action is blocked with a message asking you to move or remove the repositories first.

Deleting a workspace removes its scan history. The repositories themselves stay in Norma if you moved them; only the empty workspace shell is removed.

Workspaces vs Bitbucket workspaces #

If you connect Bitbucket, you’ll notice Bitbucket also uses the word “workspace” for something different — see Connect Bitbucket — Bitbucket workspaces vs Norma workspaces.

After a downgrade #

If you downgrade from Pro to Free, your existing workspaces are never automatically deleted — they all stay. You’ll be over the Free quota (more than one workspace) and won’t be able to create new ones until you delete workspaces back to one. Repositories and scan history are preserved throughout.

Frequently asked questions #

Can I use workspaces to share work across a team?
Not yet. In the July 2026 release, every member of your organisation already sees every workspace. Multi-tenant team controls (different members seeing different workspaces) are on the roadmap.

Can I rename my default workspace?
Yes. The “default” is a setting that points at one workspace — renaming the workspace doesn’t change its default status.

What happens to a workspace’s scan history when I delete it?
The scan history goes away with the workspace. If you need to preserve it, move the repositories out first, then delete the empty workspace.
