How it works at a glance #
- You send an invite (email or shareable link).
- The recipient signs up via your invite.
- They connect a repository and run their first scan.
- You both get a bonus.
Bonuses are credited within a few minutes of the referred user’s first successful scan.
Invite people to Norma from inside the app. Every successful referral earns you extra weekly scans on the Free tier — a way to grow your usage without upgrading. Pro accounts can refer too, but the perks are tuned for Free users.
Where to find your referral link #
There are two surfaces:
From the top bar (Free tier only) #
On the Free tier you’ll see an Earn scans pill in the top bar next to your quota counters. Click it to open the referral panel.
From Organisation Settings #
Open Organisation Settings → Referrals (available on every tier). The page shows:
- Your personal referral link — copyable with one click.
- A list of people you’ve invited, with their status (
Sent,Signed up,Active). - A counter of how many bonus scans you’ve earned and when each expires.
How to invite someone #
By email:
- Open Organisation Settings → Referrals.
- Click Invite by email.
- Enter one or more email addresses (one per line).
- Optional: add a short personal note. It’s included in the invite email.
- Click Send.
The recipient gets an email titled “[your name] thinks you’d like Norma” with a sign-up link.
By link:
- Open Organisation Settings → Referrals.
- Click Copy referral link.
- Share it anywhere — Slack, Twitter, in a blog post, in your README.
Anyone who signs up via your link is attributed to you, even if they don’t get an email.
What you earn #
For each referred user who completes their first scan:
- Free tier (you): +3 bonus scans, applied to your next weekly quota period. The bonus is one-time per referral.
- Pro tier (you): acknowledgement in the referrals list, no scan bonus (Pro already has higher quota). A community badge on your profile.
There’s no cap on how many people you can refer. The referrals list shows your lifetime stats.
What the referred person gets #
- A normal sign-up flow — no extra steps or fees. They join on the Free tier just like any new user.
- A small “You were invited by [name]” acknowledgement on the welcome screen for context.
We don’t gate any features behind being invited. Joining via a referral link is exactly the same product experience as joining directly.
Referral statuses #
Every referral in your list has one of these states:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Sent | You sent an invite by email. The recipient hasn’t signed up yet. |
| Signed up | The recipient has an account but hasn’t yet connected a repository or run a scan. |
| Active | The recipient has connected a repo and completed their first scan. Bonus credited. |
| Expired | The invite email expired (30 days). Re-send if you want to. |
Limits and edge cases #
- One bonus per unique person. Re-inviting the same email after their first activation doesn’t give another bonus.
- Self-referrals don’t count. Signing up a second account with your own email won’t credit a bonus.
- Bulk referrals are fine but human. We rate-limit obvious abuse patterns; in practice the limits are well above normal use.
- Referral bonuses don’t stack with promotional credits. They’re additive to your base weekly quota only.
Privacy #
- The recipient sees your display name (e.g. Cristian Urraca) on the invite — never your email address.
- You see only whether someone has signed up and activated — not their email after they sign up (only the email you originally invited at).
- Email invites are sent from
referrals@qualityclouds.ai, not your address. Recipients can reply only to that, not directly to you.
Frequently asked questions #
Can I see who clicked my link without signing up?
No — privacy by design. The referrals page only shows successful sign-ups and activations.
My friend signed up but I didn’t get the bonus.
The bonus is credited after their first successful scan, not at sign-up. If they signed up but haven’t connected a repo yet, the status is Signed up and the bonus is pending.
Can I disable referral attribution?
The referrals list is private to your account. Removing yourself from being the referrer of a specific person isn’t supported in v1 — contact support if you need this.
Do referral bonuses ever expire?
Bonus scans are credited to your next weekly quota period and follow the same weekly reset rules. They don’t accumulate week-on-week.
